Welcome to Franciscan Charities, Inc.

St. Ann's Soup Kitchen has become the hub for Franciscan Charities, Inc. and its ministries. Last year we provided over 120,000 meals to the poor of Newark, NJ. 500 winter coats and hundreds of hats, gloves and scarves were given to those in need. Our Annual Toy Drive guaranteed that every child had a gift at Christmas. With the help of our ministries, some of our clients have completed job training and found employment. Others have received medical attention, HIV testing and addiction counseling. We began our Children's Literacy and Job Resource Program in 2010 and are currently launching our Children's Initiative which will offer a dedicated social service staff to provide comprehensive and ongoing support to our client families. At the end of 2011 we launched ID and Eyeglass programs.

Much has been accomplished, it is true, but much remains to be done.  Please help us continue our critical work.

Dear Friends of Franciscan Charities

Paul Miller, OFS

The needs of the poor are many.  Sometimes, they are obvious -- a warm and healthy meal, a small bag of groceries, a few diapers and baby food.  Some are not so obvious, but come to our attention through interactions with clients.  Some come about from a vision or idea that a volunteer has, or a contributing organization proposes.

In this issue, I invite you to read about how one philanthropic organization enhanced the comfort of St. Ann's by funding capital purchases and improvements.  I also urge you to read about how a fellowship organization is helping clients with a basic and essential need.  These are only two examples of how supportive organizations and individuals assist us, and truly inspire us to dig deeper to find ways to expand our services and programs to help clients during this difficult time.  We truly appreciate every individual, family and organization that aids us in achieving our mission.

With deep gratitude,

Paul Miller, OFS
